The friendly basketball game will feature editors, bloggers, and brand owners in the menswear space. The whole shindig is sponsored by Fohr Card, an amazing blogger directory I belong to and whose analytics verification tool I find uber-useful when working with brands, as well as Nike (a perennial fave here on SG), and Blind Barber, a so-hip-it-hurts barbershop-slash-bar right here in the city.
Considering all the waves NBA players have been making with their style in the past few years, a matchup between menswear and basketball seems like a no-brainer. Sure, you’ve got your big names like Lebron and Wade acting like the walk to the locker room is their own personal runway, but you’ve also got guys coming up that are experimenting with their style in new and interesting ways, doing their own thing. Guys like James Harden with the Rockets, the Cavs’ Tristan Thompson, and the Brooklyn Nets’ Deron Williams.
All these player-turned-fashion plates have hopefully, finally, dispelled the myth once and for all that men can’t be into clothes, care about their appearance, or enjoy experimenting with their looks.
The Fall Classic takes the argument from the other way around, and proves that just because you’re into clothes, doesn’t mean you can’t be into sports, as well.
I will be on the bleachers alternately cheering for both sides – I know, I know, such a girl thing to say, but I have friends on both teams! Like Dan from TSBMen, and my buddy/sometimes model CB from Soho menswear store Carson Street Clothiers.
If you stop by, come say hi! If you can’t make the game, no worries – just rsvp for the afterparty (held at co-sponsor Blind Barber’s back room bar) and we can toast to dressing well.
