I’m headed to California this weekend for a friend’s bachelorette party. I’m expecting half-fun – catching up with my girls! – and half torture – penis straws! and strippers! So, just the way a weekend with your high school girlfriends should be.
Even though I will be chasing the dawn with my flight, I plan on sporting my nicest jeans (yes, that’s a thing), my comfiest Everlane tee, a black blazer, and heels. Yes, I will be leaving the house at 5 in the morning in heels. Wedge heels, but it still counts.
Why do I make this effort? Because I believe you get treated the way you look like you deserve to be treated.
And if I’m going to mosey up to the ticket counter to ask if there are any empty window seats available (“towards the front, if possible?”), I’d like to have a fighting chance at a “yes.” I doubt that if I schlepped up to the desk in sweatpants, Uggs and my high school JV basketball hoodie on, the attendant would be as accommodating.
That’s why I think it’s always worth it to put in the extra effort with your outfit. You’ll never be disappointed that you look more put together than everyone else in the room – or the plane as the case may be.
That said, the pull towards sweatpants is strong. I mean, I get it.
Tell me, what do you wear when you fly?
