I would say there are a few items worth getting there on occasion. Items such as Levi's and underwear are going to be the same no matter where you buy them from.

But I'm with Ryan on buying things of higher quality elsewhere. I had to learn that the hard way....

Sure, the garments are of a lower quality than other stores, but that's what this strategy is all about, right? Acknowledging their true price point/consumer? If your real competitor is Target and not Macy's, isn't it to their advantage to come out and say so?

I think what I appreciate about this strategy is its honesty. By getting rid of the sales and sticking to a consistent low pricing, th store is owning up to the quality of the garments they sell. Customers who were formerly chasing after coupons and sales at the store will now be able to shop with ease of mind, knowing they're always getting the best (lowest) price. They're going to be shopping at the store any way, don't you think they appreciate having the artificial discount run-around removed from the interaction? Their shopping experience just got easier.

And for the shopper more concerned with, and who can afford, higher quality garments probably aren't shopping at JCP to begin with.

I agree. I highly doubt I'd ever buy anything from there. Be better than JC Penny! You can find good deals on quality clothing, just not from there. I'm sorry, but when I can pick up a pair of suit pant separates for $40 at regular price, I know to run away! Sure, you can get it tailored to fit well, but you're just not going to get a decent fabric at that price. You get what you pay for. I'd rather be a discerning customer and wait for a good deal to come my way on something solid. I guess you can't really do this if you haven't built up a decent wardrobe already, though. But don't do it at JC Penny!

According to this new pricing structure, yes, the clothes are "cheap." But hey, so are the clothes that Target carries, and I love shopping there. And at Target, I'm never worried about waiting for clothes to go on sale because they're so inexpensively priced already.

What I'm interested to see is how a Target-style store does in a mall. Because I've never been to a mall with a Target, Kohls, Walmart, etc attached..have you?

Considering the deals my grandma gets there (I think the last item she bragged about was a sweater for $0.99), I am too.

Frankly, I'm surprised they're still in business to make changes.

Doesn't JCP have cheap clothing? I'm not trolling I'm just curious because I always thought that was the case. I mean cheap in the low quality, get-what-you-pay-for way, not the tremendous bargain, look-what-I-paid-for-this way. If that makes any sense at all...
