Outfit of the Day: Ty Burrell Looks Good Without Trying Too Hard

Let’s hear it for the “normal” guy.

There’s a lot of talk this week about menswear with a capital “M, thanks to Pitti Uomo (Fashion Week for bros) happening now in Milan. While double-breasted blazers and dub monks that run in the thousands are all well and good, here on Style Girlfriend, M is for Megan, and I say – forget about all that stuff. Unless, of course, you want to take a second mortgage out to finance a new wardrobe…

If not, we’ll keep the focus on leaving the house each day looking presentable and handsome.

Like Ty Burrell here! Collecting a much-deserved trophy for his hilarious role as Phil Dunphy on Modern Family (if you’re still not watching, I don’t even know what to say to you. It’s summer, what else are you catching up on? Wipeout?) at the Critics’ Choice Awards.

Could I do without the beard? Maybe. It just seems like it would be hot in the summer!

But I love that he showed up at an awards show in an OCBD (oxford cloth button-down collar shirt), a dress shirt usually reserved for more casual situations. Burrell looked totally at home on stage scooping up his crystal star trophy..thing. He looks both comfortable and appropriate, the two goals I always keep in mind when getting dressed. Plus, it was the Critics’ Choice Awards, not the Oscars, so I’m just happy he didn’t show up in a track suit.

Get the look:

Suit: J. Crew Ludlow in charcoal, $650 (sold as separates)

Shirt: Brooks Brothers, $80 (right now, 40% off when you buy four or more shirts, or 25% off for two with BB’s semi-annual sale)

Shoes: Aldo, $110
