Style Girlfriend in Maine: My Trip to L.L. Bean

The L.L. Bean flagship store in Freeport, Maine

While in Maine this weekend, I visited the L.L. Bean flagship store in Freeport. It was humongous and rugged and there were stuffed wolves, and an aquarium, and I had to ask for directions more than once.

The trip also allowed me to get a closer look at the L.L. Bean Signature line in person. I was not disappointed.

I was excited when the Signature line launched in 2010, as the sub-brand’s sensibilities align more closely with my own than the original. Don’t get me wrong: I love L.L. Bean – buy one of their monogrammed totes and prepare to give your kids the same initials because that bag will be in the family forever.

But the fresh air-loving hunter/fisher vibe is one I just can’t relate to. Despite being from Wisconsin, my family isn’t exactly what you’d call “outdoorsy.” I’ve never gone fishing or camping or kayaking or…or I better stop before you think I’m that girl who’s all ‘I broke a nail, I want to go home!’ any time you get me outside wi-fi range.

The L.L. Bean Signature line captures the quality and roots of L.L. Bean while updating the aesthetic with a fresh, modern take – something even us “city folk” can understand.

While the Signature part of the store was tiny, the brand assures me it’s growing, with really cool collaborations in the works (like, really cool. Get ready.) and possibly a brick and mortar store of its own.

Hopefully right down the street from me.
