Inspiration Board: Kris Humphries

I have a confession to make: I kind of sort of can’t help completely loving Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

Just like Girls Next Door before it, I find myself torn between my loathing of the stars’ career ladders; consisting of rungs lined with rewarded sexual proclivity and unnaturally long eyelashes, and my love of their familial banter and figure flattering belted minidresses.

The point is, I caught up on this season over the weekend, and I was surprised at how often I found myself nodding in approval at Kris Humphries’s style (not Kris Humphries’ personality, mind you. I’m still undecided on that part, though I think I’m leaning towards liking him for putting up with the family’s manufactured shenanigans. Plus, don’t you feel like the guy has simultaneously, like, won and lost at life at the same time in this whole scenario?).

Kim’s new, currently unemployed husband is humongous and a basketball player to boot so could be forgiven for wearing sweatpants everywhere, or five-button suits that look like they were picked up at Bernie Mac’s estate auction.

But I’m going to chalk it up to his good Midwestern sensibilities (Minnesota represent!) that he’s got a good, stylish head on his broad shoulders.

Take, for instance, his look in the picture above. While I can’t recommend the mini-horse as an accessory, I love the sweater.

A shawl collar is one of those things guys can wear to instantly make you look more dressed up, but is also totally comfortable and cozy. Like a hoodie your girl won’t be embarrassed you wear to brunch with her folks.

This one from Levi’s has elbow patches, sturdy-looking buttons, and a neutral stripe. I know, I know. I had you at elbow patches.

This double-breasted version (Justin Timberlake recently sported something similar) is advanced placement, but I bet you could handle it.

If a cardigan feels too trendy for you, how about a simple pullover sweater? Same white t-shirt underneath, or a dress-shirt rolled at the sleeves

As for the undershirt, you can’t go wrong with Hanes. And I might be slow on the uptake, but who else loves that everything is tagless now?

All I’m saying is, you could do worse than take some style cues from the new Mr. Kardashian. Just don’t tell anyone how much I love that show.
