3 Ways to Wear a Chambray Dress Shirt
how to dress up this year-round staple
It’s true that chambray – the plain weave fabric that’s similar to (but lighter than) denim – is a favorite for casual outfits especially in the summer, but did you also know that it looks amazing all dressed up? This J.Crew chambray dress shirt boasts a spread collar and slim torso, making it just as appropriate to wear with a sport coat and tie as it does with – wait for it – a pair of jeans (yep, we’re pro-Canadian tuxedo here at SG HQ… when done right, that is).
Not sure how to style this dressed-up version? Fear not, we’ve got your denim-clad back. Here are 3 ways we love a guy in a chambray shirt:
1. AT THE OFFICE
Wear it Well: Pretend this chambray shirt is just another button-up in your workwear warrobe. Style it like you would a blue OCBD, and you’re golden. And don’t be afraid to pair it with colored pants on the bottom; chambray acts as a neutral in your outfits, making it extra-versatile.
2. ON CAMPUS
Wear it Well: There is a wrong way to do denim-on-denim, and there’s a right way to do denim-on-denim. This is the right way. The trick is to make sure you choose two completely different denims – play with both texture and color. Mix up the weaves (selvedge denim!), and definitely, definitely mix up the color/shade.
3. DATE NIGHT
Wear it Well: The casual feel of a chambray dress shirt makes slipping into a sport coat for date night a little easier to stomach. A killer sandalwood cologne provides the final touch for a romantic evening.
