{This giveaway is now closed} And the denim-free challenge continues! Who’s been following along? Everyone? That’s what we like to hear. Keep sharing your outfits on social media using #NoJeansJanuary for a chance to get featured on SG and win* $250 of Bar III at Macy’s

We’ve seen you gentleman command many a Breton shirt or striped sweater, so today we’re taking it vertical and turning our attention to none other than pinstripes. Shed any notion of an 1920’s gangster costumes or 80’s Wall Street archetypes by keeping your pinstripe suit slim and relatively snug in the shoulders. And please by all means, don’t neglect the basics of suit tailoring with this classic pattern. While we love a guy in a crisp white dress shirt and patterned tie, this is a great opportunity to switch things up by layering a knit sweater under your business-ready suit.

Before we get into it, though…a big thanks to Bar III for helping Style Girlfriend put on this 30-day wardrobe challenge for our readers. The modern, versatile offerings for both men and women include office-appropriate clothing with elegant, modern proportions and price tags that won’t break the bank. Consider it stylish “wear to work” clothing that will take you straight to happy hour feeling dapper as ever. Guys know style isn’t about all-designer-everything; it’s about finding those stand-out pieces to mix into your closet that make you feel like a million bucks. That’s where Bar III comes in.

How to wear stripes on day 13 of #NoJeansJanuary:

#NoJeansJanuary

Suit: Suit Supply, $499 | Sweater: Incotex, $279 | Coat: J.Crew, $450

Socks: Johnston & Murphy, $16 | Shoes: Bar III, $100 | Bag: Sandqvist, $149

Watch: Tsovet, $250 | Cologne: Prada, $64 | Scarf: J.Press, $42

Wear it well:

  • Mixing multiple stripes? Pair different sizes of stripes together in order to avoid clashing. If you’re opting for a striped sweater, then choose one with thicker horizontal stripes.
  • Sticking to a color scheme will help to keep the outfit from seeming disorganized when pairing multiple striped pieces together.
  • Pops of color make all the difference. Make the look even more visually interesting with a bright sock or colored sweater.
  • Choose pieces that you can wear more than once, like a timeless charcoal pinstripe suit.
  • For a slightly lighter take on pinstripes, try a chalk stripe suit with stripes that are less precise and slightly bolder. You can style the same way as a pinstripe suit or even dress it down with a hoodie or t-shirt and cardigan.
