Steal His Look: Justin Timberlake Promoting the Trolls Movie
A look for casual Friday (or movie premieres)

By Brittany Hammonds | May 13 2016
What does a DreamWorks animated movie and 2015 SG Madness have in common? Well, the title might have (ahem…definitely) given it away because it’s the one and only Justin Timberlake. While he and Anna Kendrick have been making their promotional rounds for the new animated movie, Trolls, us ladies at SG HQ have been impressed by his refined yet accessible wardrobe. From London to Cannes, J.T. has been throwing out some serious business casual vibes with his button up and chino combinations – and business casual done right is definitely a look worth stealing.
Channel Justin Timberlake promoting Trolls:
Pants: Jack Threads, $49 | Jacket: Zara, $80 | Shirt: Bonobos, $85 | Watch: Leff, $399
Shoes: H by Hudson, $105 | Belt: Allen Edmonds, $98 | Socks: Pair of Thieves, $6
So turn on J.T.’s new song that SG HQ has un-surprisingly been jamming to on repeat (it’s catchy, guys!) and see how to wear this look well:
- Add a bit of edge and a casual undertone to your workday look by swapping a suit jacket for a sleek bomber. Even better: this works with chinos and trousers alike.
- Opting for a textured or subtly patterned jacket is a quick way to impress and look more refined.
- You can swap casual Friday denim for colored chinos or khakis for a look that’s comfortable yet office appropriate.
- When in doubt, navy and brown is an ideal color combo for work or play.
- Leather chukkas meld laid-back vibes with a sartorial aesthetic, making them a great alternative to derbies during the work week or the weekend.
- Trend alert: an “invisible tie” where your shirt is buttoned all the way up is worth a try. It adds a dressier element to your outfit and makes a bold statement.

Aw man, they’re getting paid to go to Berlin? I should probably update my resume to land a couple of jobs starring in films.
My office is always business casual. Working from home most of the week helps. On days like today where I have to drag it into the office I go with a can’t-miss chino and solid polo with loafers of some sort; can’t beat a basic uniform for bleary-eyed mornings. Cool kids like me still sport the invisible tie, though.
and he didn’t even have to show up in person for filming! voice acting is the best. Maybe I can replace Idina Menzel in the next Frozen cartoon…
Yup, with my new gig, it’s more business/smart casj rather than casj casj. And JT’s outfit is practically similar to the outfit I’d be wearing almost every workday, with maybe swapping a bomber for a shacket/trucker/Harrington and donning a plaid shirt, for the most part, under it.
To add to that: Sometimes, I’d be going for edgy/indie smart casj and go for a leather biker over a lighter plaid/chambray shirt tucked in to some dark non-jeans and leather boots. Like what David Beckham would wear.
One thing to note, I had my linen-cotton bomber on with a polo and chinos and someone said that I had a “sassy” jacket. Something interesting, I think.
Today my Friday casual is: Edwin Raw Selvedge Jeans, Pink Dolphin Skate T-Shirt, Vans Sneakers.
My office is always business casual, but denim is allowed on Fridays. I think that policy is little antiquated because there isn’t much difference between those two. However, at 39 yrs old, I’m the youngest male in our office, so the clothing policies aren’t the most current.
That tee gets an upvote from me, along with the jeans and sneakers, of course.
I feel your pain, in a way. I’m expected to wear biz casj but I see a considerable amount of people at work wearing denim and some untucked shirts for guys. Hence, the closest I can get for Monday to Thursday are either non-jeans or jet black denim.
And gotta wonder how a 39 year old is considered the youngest male in the office. I wonder what industry this one is.
I’m in IT Receuiting. My son plays baseball with one of the owners of Pink Dolphin so he hooked me up with a bunch of clothes…lucky me.
Today’s casual Friday look is a pair of dark wash Levi’s, navy button down with large cream colored polkadots, a black textured knit blazer, and a pair of burgundy Chelsea boots.
I’m in a similar boat to average joe, my office is business casual, but we only do denim on Fridays. Even then we’re still supposed to wear a collared shirt, though I will at times get away with a tee with a blazer. But I don’t stick to denim on our more relaxed dress days – I love wearing chino joggers to work. And although I’m wearing Chelseas today, I’m usually in a pair of sneakers.
If i dress like JT, do I get to hang out with Anna Kendrick too? Can I at least get my hair to look like his?
I’m a hard no on the air tie though. Not my thing. I think my mom made me do that when going to church as a kid and I didn’t like it and it scarred me for life or something
Ha, both are good goals to aspire to – Anna Kendrick proximity and JT hair 🙂
Long time reader, first time commenter.
I work at an elementary school so Fridays I’m all about a plain polo, chino joggers, and Nike frees…
Love it! Assuming you’re the “cool teacher” in school? (I mean, if you’re reading SG, you’re definitely ahead of the curve…)
🙂
Haha I don’t know about “cool”. I think it would take me reading a lot more SG to get to that level.
You know I love everything about this outfit! Great details and color combos. As soon as I saw that shirt I recognized it from the Bonobos catalog. JT still doing it doing it and doing it well. #SpringBaby
