SG's Picks of the Month for June
These are a few of my favorite things..
Picks of the Month
I am gobbling up books like cookies this month. All the travel I’ve been doing – along with a few flights thoughtlessly NOT including tv’s in the headrests – so rude – have meant that I’m getting more reading for pleasure time than usual. These are two of my favorites.
This winner of the Pulitzer Prize for fiction is definitely the book you’ve been missing this summer. The perfect read for those lazy days lying out on your hammock with a cold one. Warning: you may not want to put it down until you’ve read it cover to cover.
Sophia Amorus tells the story of how she went from dumpster-diving, to being the CEO and founder of Nasty Girl, the online fashion retailer. If that doesn’t inspire you, then I don’t know what will.
The “Canadian Lebron” is already breaking out like his namesake, style-wise. I heard his black and white jacket described as “shattered iPhone case” chic, but I loved it. What say you?
By now you guys know I’m on the shorter is better bandwagon when it comes to shorts, and that extends (or..the opposite?) to swim trunks.
And it’s not that I want you dropping a ton of dough on a swimsuit, but I have found that quantity does not equal quality as it applies to swim trunks. It’s easy to find a pair of $15 cargo shorts that extend three inches past your knees…but you’re a grown man and you don’t want that. So you may actually have to pay more for less, in this case.
Think of it like a fancy restaurant – the portions are smaller, but what you get is way, way better than a value meal.
I’ve been on the road a lot this summer, and far from feeling like a drag, each trip has made me want to travel even more. I’m starting to put together a destination wish list from close (Palm Springs well, closei-sh) to farflung (Bali).
This single is infectious. I know it’s always on the radio, but I’m somehow not sick of it yet. I love that Fun (I refuse to acknowledge the “.”)’s Jack Antonoff described the vibe of this side project as “inspired by an 80s John Hughes movie.” It just hits the sound on the head so perfectly.
