How to Dress Like Hugh Grant in "Love, Actually"
Follow the (fictional world) leader
Every year, we watch Love Actually, and every year, we get angry that Professor Snape is a cheating liar. That “All I Want for Christmas is You” is the best holiday song of all time. That love actually is all around blah blah blah. And also, that googling “how to dress like Hugh Grant” doesn’t turn up nearly enough results, if you ask us.
This year, we decided to make good use out of the ritual by drawing inspiration for a perfect party look for your company’s office party, from one of its most memorable characters.
Now, if you’re under the age of 20, you may be asking yourself, “What’s a Hugh Grant?”
Well child, Hugh Grant is Benedict Cumberbatch ten years ago. His popularity derives not so much from his acting, but rather his charming personality, self-effacing British humility, great hair, and – yes – classic style.
At his peak popularity/hotness, he dated Elizabeth Hurley (one of the most beautiful women to walk the earth) at the peak of her popularity/hotness. That’s all you really need to know.
Hugh Grant plays David, a handsome prime minister with a heart of gold, hidden dance skills, and a closet full of Saville Row suits. Our dashing, if fumble-y, prime minister falls for a woman on his staff who—spoiler alert—falls in love with him, too!
How to dress like Hugh Grant in Love, Actually
What we like:
- His dance moves, obviously
- Those suits. Since Grant plays the Prime Minister, they’re most definitely bespoke, but you can easily nail the same look off the rack with the help of a good tailor
- Injections of personal style. Take that tie, for instance; it’s striking, yet professional. If you’re heading right from work to your holiday shindig, consider changing your tie, or adding a bold pocket square to up the party quotient on your outfit
- His attitude. David is confident (especially in his dealings with a buffoon U.S. president played by Billy Bob Thornton), yet humble. Which is really a description of any Hugh Grant role. If you can nail that shy-boy self-assurance, you’ll be the swoon of the century..and a hit at the party.
