SG’s Picks of the Month for May
Each month, I share my favorite finds, from clothes to music to grooming goodies. Share your own in the comments section below, and check out past picks here, here, and here.
Every Man Jack body wash in citrus scrub
A friend told me about this men’s grooming brand. I love their focus on naturally derived ingredients – no parabens, no phthalates, no dyes, no sodium lauryl sulfate. And the fact that it smells good too, well that’s a (pesticide-free) cherry on top.
Stella Artois and “the perfect pour”
For the past two years, I’ve had the opportunity to attend the Stella Artois World Draught Masters competition. Held in Cannes during the film festival this year, I watched as bartenders and beer aficionados from around the world competed to become a brand ambassador for the Belgian brewery. It’s always a nice reminder that, even a glass of beer deserves your attention. Anything worth doing – or drinking – is worth doing well.
Yes, it’s a splurge, and yes, it’s for men, but I can’t get enough of this intensive eye cream. As someone who could carry groceries home in the bags under her eyes, I’m constantly on the hunt for a good (ie, strooong) eye cream. I’m thinking about doing a post around the importance of eye cream for both women and men…whaddaya guys think?
In May I also visited the Bonobos Guideshop in NYC’s Flatiron district. I actually shot my Skillshare class at the brand’s Soho guideshop, but hadn’t yet been to their original location.
It’s always fun playing fly on the wall as men come in for appointments with stylists. The business model – come in for a personalized appointment, work one-one-one with a stylist in a relaxed setting to comb through an edited selection of everything from swim trunks to suiting. Honestly, if this existed for women, I’d be its first customer. And with over 10 locations from San Francisco to Austin to NYC, more and more guys have access.
Like this one, from Club Monaco. Need a refresher on how to artfully roll those sleeves so you look like one of the mannequins at A&F? Ask and you shall receive.
I had to check out this brand after a friend raved about them. A small operation out of Cincinnati, Noble’s making premium denim by hand from a factory in Tennessee. For now there are two fits available – a slim and a regular – although they’ll be rolling out more styles in the coming months.
If you follow SG on social media, you know I’ve been listening to this album since the second it came out. I’m not sick of it yet.
Vans classic slip-ons in black and white
This is the second month in a row that Vans has made my monthly favorites. In April, the California cool brand’s recognition came thanks to a badass Star Wars collaboration, and this time around, it’s in honor of their summer classics, the slip-on. Even if you don’t go full-Spicoli, you can still nail the laid-back vibe of the warm weather months with a classic pair in a textile upper.
