SG Picks of the Month: March 2014
March…in like a lion, out like a lion, amirite guys!? No, but seriously, there will be no love lost between me and this tempestuous month. I am all for appreciating the change of seasons, but I wish this one would flip the switch already.
While I anxiously await the turning of the calendar page tomorrow, I thought I’d share my favorites from the month nearly past. Hope to hear your own faves in the comments below!
Shailene Woodley
The new Jennifer Lawrence? Shailene (or Shai, as her friends call her, so I’m going to, too) has been busy promoting Divergent, her new movie, adapted from the latest YA “Girls kicking butt” series…which I just have to be in the middle of at this very moment. And while J.Law has the “everybody’s best friend” girl down pat, Shai has “everybody’s hippie neighbor that’s always trying to cure their colds with crystals” thing. And I LOVE it. Seriously, this girl has me wanting to try whitening my teeth by gargling coconut oil, eating clay to get metal toxins out, and going makeup-free more often. All good things, obviously, and I’m already a sucker for that witch doctor (as my friends so lovingly call it) stuff. I’ll be sure to report back if any of it actually helps.
Orlebar Brown swim trunks
You guys know I’m a big cheerleader for Orlebar Brown’s men’s swim trunks (and now, their women’s stuff too). I know it’s a splurge, and you know I don’t encourage you to splurge too often, so when I do, you can trust that I really believe in the product. These shorts last forever, and look good for just as long…two traits not often found in one garment. Choose a color you know you’ll like looking at for at least five years and dive into this UK-based brand.
Timberland Abington line
{clockwise from top left: Chamberlain | Steam Chukka | Quarryville }
Last week I had a chance to view Timberland’s spring and upcoming fall collections at the company’s headquarters in New Hampshire. These guys are earnestly passionate (or is it passionately earnest?) about their work and their storied heritage, and it’s easy to get behind that kind of sentiment. But they’re not the type to look back, or keep a stranglehold on the past. The boots and shoes found in the capsule “Abington” collection, especially, do a great job of ponying up the quality you expect from Timberland with a cool factor you wouldn’t necessarily have thought of from the brand before. If you only conjure up the iconic yellow boot when you hear the name, it might be time to give them another look.
Docker pants
You guys know I love exposing you to new brands, but I also love when you expose me to old ones. Dockers Alpha khakis had been on my radar for awhile, but a few of you suggested in the comments recently that I give them a glance. I’m glad I did. Reasonably priced, a modern slim fit, and comes in every color you could think of. What’s not to like?
Kiehl’s Facial Fuel Transformer for Men
I snagged a few samples of this at the Kiehl’s store recently and am ready to go all in with a full-size purchase…yes, for myself. The gel consistency of this moisturizer is just right for guys – not too goopy, or too thin. I’ve never been disappointed with the brand’s Facial Fuel line, and this product keeps the love going.
Tell me:
What were you wearing, trying, loving this month?
