Style Girlfriend Quarterly Package #SGF02: What You Missed!

By Megan Collins | Last Updated: Oct 17 2016

…Or if you were smart enough to sign up, what you got!

The theme of my second Quarterly package was “Go Bright or Go Home.” When I was little and warm weather would (finally) roll around in Wisconsin, my mother would always recite to us kids, “Spring has sprung, the grass has riz, I wonder where the flowers is?” Which was ridiculous and adorable because that’s how moms are supposed to be.

But the phrase floats to the tip of my tongue even now, and it’s exactly how I was feeling in New York City earlier this spring. One day it would be 70 degrees and I’d be skipping around in shorts and a t-shirt. The next, I’d be layering on jackets like it was my job.

When the weather can’t seem to make up its mind, I notice I’m drawn to dressing in bright, fun colors. I suppose it’s my own version of a rain dance – I’m trying to call in the tree leaves, call forth the flowers.

Hence my brightly-hued package theme. I’m always trying to get you guys to add a little color to your wardrobe; with this package, I hopefully helped that along.

Here’s what you got if you signed up for Quarterly #SGF02.
(And while we’re at it, a friendly reminder that there’s not much time left to sign up for #SGF03!)

HOOK & ALBERT SHOELACES

I was so psyched to be able to get a pair of shoelaces from Hook & Albert into my second Quarterly package. Some guys got purple, while others received yellow..the suggested Vikings allegiance is purely accidental, I assure you. Hopefully, I’ll be seeing both hues in future Outfit of the Week entries soon. And don’t think these bold laces are just for your sneakers – they look super stylish laced up into brogues, wingtips, and – of course – your favorite chukkas.

HAPPY SOCKS

From friends who received #SGF02, I got a few “Megan, polka dots? Really?” texts on these bold socks from Swedish-based Happy Socks. But I swear, you guys can pull off polka dots and more, so long as you do it with confidence. If you’re going to be flashing only a little bit of ankle, you might as well make the peek worth it.

EVOLUTION OF STYLE POCKET SQUARE

If you thought I was going to skip pink, you don’t know me very well. Apart from my goal of getting every guy in America to burn his bootcut jeans, I will be a happy girl if I can convince at least a few more guys that – yes, you CAN wear pink. I promise. This gingham pocket square, from made-to-measure suiting company (and past OOTW giveaway sponsor!) Evolution of Style, fit the bill. Show your jacket pocket who’s the boss.

THE KNOTTERY KNIT TIE

There was no question, from the moment the “Go bright” theme started bouncing around my head, I knew I wanted to include an awesome knit tie. That’s because they feel casual and comfortable, but still put together – like a really nice, new sweatshirt – the crewneck kind, without any logos. This shade, coming from my friends over at The Knottery (another former OOTW sponsor!), is called “Blogger Blue” which I thought was only appropriate to include in #SGF02.

….

And as I said in my letter to Quarterly subscribers:

Start small – a sock here (well, two at once, preferably) then graduate to the tie, swap in the laces, and from there? Who knows? The world is your brightly-hued oyster. In the meantime, just remember that women appreciate a man who’s not afraid to show some color…especially when that color is pink.

Tell me:

What are you wearing the most from #SGF02? What do you want to see in future Quarterly boxes from Style Girlfriend?
