What to Wear for the Kentucky Derby

Look good whether you're watching at home or on the track

With ladies in big skirts and even bigger hats, and men in pastels, suspenders and their Sunday Best, it would be easy to believe that the Kentucky Derby is more of a fashion event than a horse race. Whether you’re watching the horse races at Churchill Downs or from your couch, you best dress up for this sports event steeped in tradition.

Two ways to dress up for the Kentucky Derby:

AT THE TRACK

Screen Shot 2015-04-30 at 7.37.19 AM

Sport Coat: Haspel, $695 | Pants: Haspel, $295 | Shirt: Banana Republic, $90

Bow tie: Jack & Jones, $23 | Shoes: Oliver Spencer, $405 | Hat: ASOS, $25

Wear it Well: Celebrate in true derby fashion with a seersucker suit, a boater hat and slick kicks to match. A patterned tie keeps it fun and playful – after all, it is a game!

ON THE COUCH

Shirt: Eidos Marcus, $174 | Joggers: CWST, $219 | Shoes: Fred Perry, $160

Hat: Goorin, $52 | Bow tie: ASOS, $29 | Watch: Shinola, $550

Wear it Well: Take a casual derby look and make it more casual by swapping structured pants for linen joggers and brogues for brogue inspired sneaks.
