Hey guys, it’s time for the latest episode of Style Girlfriend’s Undressed podcast!

Listen to the new podcast here:

Hey! Heads up! You can also listen to Undressed on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and more

This week, I’m joined by men’s personal stylist Peter Nguyen in the studio to talk about our most embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions, the year’s best magazine covers, and the most expensive grooming product we each own.

> Read more about wardrobe malfunctions here

“Oh, now that Megan told you..”

Peter shares the skincare routine he adopted at just 35 years young. Encouraged by yours truly, his wife appreciated his newfound grooming dedication, but was a little bitter that it was my nudging and not hers that finally convinced him to get his mug in gear.

We also chatted about the most expensive grooming product in our respective bathroom cabinets.

Hey @esquire could you let me know who clicks this link for ~$25~ Aesop mouthwash from Mr Porter? I haven’t decided if I want to marry them for their money or murder them but pls send info asap in meantime. Thank you. pic.twitter.com/bHRdWVnQhU

For Peter: It’s Image Skincare’s Prevention+ SPF 32 Moisturizer (coming in at a whopping $39). Mine: La Mer face cream, tipping the scales at $175, which honestly, should be removed from my home after I described it as “really fancy lady skincare.” But hey.

We both agree, though, that it’s good to get in the habit of taking care of yourself. As Peter put it, “It takes a lot of work to look effortless.” And if a) you can afford the good stuff, and b) owning it makes you feel compelled to actually use it, then godspeed.

“We’re going to ‘Parent Trap’ GQ and Esquire”

gq esquire covers 2018, new podcast from style girlfriend
Whose covers reigned supreme in 2018?

Peter and I also discuss the year in magazine covers for both GQ and Esquire, debating our favorites, and placing bets on whose face we’ll see on one or both in 2019. We also imagine a scenario where we’re allowed to create one mega-magazine from our favorite parts of each. We’re naming it Gesquire (soft “G”) and honestly, if Gwyneth can make a print edition of Goop, I don’t see why we shouldn’t be able to get this off the ground.

“Enjoy your billion dollars. I’m sorry that’s all you have to soothe you at night.”

And finally, in “Hot Takes,” Peter and I debate the demise of Allbirds’ cool factor, despite their recent $1.4 billion valuation (I rounded up to a cool two billion in the episode…close enough when you’re talking billions with a “B.”) You’ll have to let us know what you think…if you listen to the episode, it’s clear I’m on the fence about this intangible shift from “cool” to “so over” so fast for this brand!

Peter comes down pretty hard in favor of simply adopting an alternative sneaker to your footwear repertoire (his picks inform the shopping selection below), while I wonder if the brand still has legs (ha) outside of more fashion-obsessed cities like New York. Tell me what you think in the comments!
