Steal His Look: Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit in “The Muppet Christmas Carol”

Holiday (Muppet) Party Edition

You read that right.

We’re suggesting you look to the iconic Muppet Christmas Carol for even more holiday outfit inspiration… Kermit the Frog’s Bob Cratchit as a 19th century broke-ass bookkeeper, to be exact.

Why?

Because Tiny Tim’s dad rocks a surprisingly stylish hipster wardrobe in the classic Christmas flick. And his (only) workday outfit? Well, it’s perfect for a holiday party with friends this season.

Sure, Charles Dickens originally wrote the Cratchits to be particularly penniless and poorly dressed, but, if you ask us, Kermit-as-Bob looks like he walked straight out of the pages at GQ.

Just look at those savvy layers, contrasting textures, and playful patterns!

While we used some artistic license with the price point in recreating the classic character’s look (these pieces are definitely not in Bob Cratchit’s budget), we think Miss Piggy..err, Mrs. Cratchit would definitely find a way to spring for her man…err, frog.

What we like:

  • Dueling scarves. The orange and navy number is meant to be worn as an ascot, and the rugby striped scarf serves as outerwear for the road.
  • Bold headgear. Okay, maybe you won’t wear a top hat to your local drinking hole, but we’ve gotta admire Kermie’s fashion choices. A wool brimmed beanie would work too, though.
  • That tweed waistcoat! Based purely on how challenging it was to find a normal-person brand that sells them, we’re guessing not a lot of you own one. Let’s change that! It seriously is a timeless piece of suiting.
  • All that texture! Take the topcoat, for instance. The contrasting material on the lapel is certain to make you stand out in a crowd, and not in a spooky ghost of Jacob Marley clanging ghost chains (or worse, two Marleys), way.
