Who else is sick of their clothes sticking to them? If you’re anything like me, you’re doing whatever you can to dress for the heat without resorting to wearing your swimsuit to the office. Personally, I’m a big fan of men in linen, especially casual linen pants.
The loose weave of this summer-favorite fabric keeps the air flowing, and even reflects heat away from the body. Why else do you think Europeans look so effortlessly cool in the summer in their long sleeves and long pants and no air conditioning?
A lot of times when I first mention wearing more linen to guys in our personal styling sessions, though, they hesitate. These clients have two main fears, on polar opposite sides of the style spectrum:
1) They think linen is too formal for everyday. They see it as a staple in summer suiting and can’t picture themselves wearing it anywhere but a beach wedding.
Or…
2) It’s too casual! Appropriate only for vacation at some tropical all-inclusive resort.
Which is when I bust out the truth: the best casual linen pants can be worn away from the water, too.
Take these linen ripstop pants from Flint and Tinder, for instance:
Adopted from the tear- and rip-resistant fabric developed by the US army during WWII, these pants come in a unique cotton-linen ripstop weave. They’re more breathable than a traditional cotton-nylon blend, but with the same hardwearing toughness.
Meaning, you can expect fewer wrinkles than you’d usually encounter with linen.
I love how they’re double-lined in the knees for a workwear vibe that looks good year-round, and the belt loops that offer a more elevated, everyday look than drawstring linen pants.
These casual linen pants can be the foundation for a versatile wardrobe that takes you from the office to date night.
So, ditch your jeans and reach for these pants the next time warm weather rolls into town.
