If you’ve ever heard the term “career coach” or “life coach” and thought…maybe?, today’s episode of “Undressed” is for you.

I love love LOVE today’s podcast guest. Michelle Ward is the “When I Grow Up” career coach, and the miracle worker responsible (among a few others) for getting me out of advertising – a career I hated but felt locked into – and into writing – a vocation I was secretly in love with but terrified to try. While in her work she focuses on a female clientele with creative ambitions, the advice she shares in this episode of “Undressed” cuts across lines of gender and profession. I’m a big believer in raising your hand when you need help, and paying to work with a career coach like Michelle was one of the best investments I’ve ever made (the other one? this purse).

The way I see it: you hire a trainer to help get you faster fitness results; you whip out Seamless to get food in your belly faster, and you work with a career coach when you want to move your career forward…you guessed it, faster. There’s no shame in this kind of occupational outsourcing; in fact, I think it takes extraordinary courage to say, “I’m not happy in my job (or anything else) but I want to be.” I know I was scared as hell when Michelle and I first started working together…which is exactly how I knew it was right where I needed to be.
